How to Draw Graffiti Letters Step-by-Step
On each letter page, you will find a tutorial on how to draw this letters step-by-step.
In our tutorial section, we just want to focus on how to draw graffiti letters step-by-step and the step-by-step drawing process of graffiti, as can be seen in the example next to this text.
There is a tutorial for every letter of the alphabet.
So, all you need to do is to grab a sheet of paper, a pencil and markers, and follow the instructions step by step.
Doing so will help you to learn every step of the way and give you an idea of how to design a graffiti on your own.
The creation process of a graffiti piece usually starts with a tag/handstyle. The letters are constructed around the tag.
Constructing a letter is quite similar. The following steps describe the steps shown in the image above:
- Step 1: Start just with lines
- Step 3: Style the blocks by adding serifs and enlarging elements of the letter
- Step 4: Add a gradient fill-in
- Step 5: Add blocks to make the graffiti look 3D
- Step 6: add the keyline, bubbles as a background effect and highlights on top of the fill-in
Even though the design process is not exactly the same every time, you can use it as a guideline and vary the fill-in, backgrounds, the type of 3D effect, shadows, and so on.
Graffiti Alphabet Blank Templates
The easiest way to create consistent graffiti alphabets in a similar style and composition is to use grids.
This is why I decided to provide two printable blank templates for both – graffiti letters and numbers.
I hope they help you to improve your style.

Graffiti Letters Videos
Procreate for iPad became my favorite tool for graffiti lettering. It is probably the leading creative application made for iPad.
I love sketching on paper as well, but drawing on iPad offers a lot of additional possibilities.
The app offers hundreds of free brushes.
You can additionally create brushes on your own.
Not to mention, a lot of people already selling brushes for tags, handstyles and graffiti lettering in general as well.
Below, you will find a growing collection of time-lapse drawing videos of graffiti letters done with Procreate.
I hope they inspire you! Which one is your favorite?
The “normal” iPad (not the pro-version) and the first Apple Pencil are good enough to start out with iPad lettering. They are way cheaper than the Apple Pencil 2 and iPad Pro and good enough for drawing with Procreate.
